Vision

Sunup by Seth RuefISchoolNet's vision is three-fold, all based on the premise that openness leads to better learning, better schools and better societies:

  1. People First To Bridge the gap between perennially underfunded schools and affordable, but complex software by providing customized versions of free software-based solutions for schools: Tools for people at a human cost, not at the cost of people's jobs.
  2. Open Source To contrast open with closed source software and to point out the latter's congruence with educational values and to promote the method of its creation as a model of modern, positive, open educational technique.
  3. Open Heart To build on the first two to encourage schools that have the means to contribute to the making and documentation of the free and open software they use and also to make it available with their support to fellow institutions and colleagues with lesser means, free of cost.
