Read about Sustainable Software
We named the five technology services which every school needs after the five animals without which the African savannah would not be the same. No school can do without its own big five: its office's administrative work, its library, its classrooms and teachers, or its public relations and communications systems. The technology developed to make these parts of a school function better has become indispensable, but if it comes at too high a cost -- in terms of time or money -- then it could be the ruin of the schools it is meant to help. Like the Big Five animals of Africa, Information Technology could prove too costly for its environment -- either it or the schools themselves would become extinct. Our Big 5 tools are designed to enable you to serve your students for the long-term. You can read about each of them by clicking on the animal's images or using the menu for the Big 5 Plus 2.
ITeachNet has created a Virtual Tech Team to take care of these needs for your school. Focus on teaching and learning rather than on whether your tech system is up and running, legal, up-to-date, powerful-enough or dependable in the long run. Let the Virtual Tech Team worry about those things while you get back to the business of education..
Click on the links to the animals in the menu (top or bottom) to see examples of software that we will use to improve your school's survivability.
We recommend integrating the Big 5 into our Web portal.

Services for Teachers
ITeachNet stands for "International Teachers' Network." The heart of iteachnet.org is its services for teachers. If you need a special tool for your classroom, let us know. We can probably build it for you. We start with free services for international school teachers who want to network: blogs, jobs, forums, messaging, portfolios. Then we add value with customized, dedicated on-line classrooms with blogs and forums for your students.
Finally, of course, we can take care of your whole school -- or district! If you want a blog for your classroom, or a special site: a course builder, a meeting place, a homework center, we can do it for you. Teacher-members get blogs free. For a small fee every month, you can have your own classroom site.
Of particular relevance here are iteachnet.org's LMS (Learning Management Systems) or On-line Course-Builders. Click on the hyperlinks to read about them or look for the Smart GNU's picture Want it to be part of your existing school's site? We'll make the address (URL) integrate with your school's. For example, yoursite.yourschool.edu.

Ischoolnet.org takes the worry out of using complex tools. We know that your school depends on its student information system, library system, on-line classroom software, e-mail and Web CMS. And the pressure to get it just right means that you won't have time to get it right -- without help.
You need support and that's what we offer, a complete support package for any of the Big 5: We host, configure, support and train users (teachers, office staff, administrators) in how to use Free and Open software for Schools.
This is software as a service with the freedom to access not only your information, but the code -- on your server or ours.
We offer you our considerable experience and knowledge of schools in general and these tools (The Big 5) in particular. It is our experience that tells us which tools to recommend, but like any complex tool. As with all complex tools, however, it takes time to learn and make the best use of them.
Why are we so sure we can help you? Because we have had the good fortune to be involved in the community that makes these tools. Furthermore, we are experienced teachers, and we have the right kinds of customized servers, the interest, the discipline and the good will necessary to make complex and powerful tools such as these work with particular schools.
By the way, if you're already using other tools, ask us about about data migration. Chances are, we can import your data into into new tools.
ISchoolNet.org is ready and able to help you to do so. Contact us for help.
