For upper-secondary or high school, either of the above would do very well, but ed-tech is subject to fashion just as much as any other part of the techie world (cell phones, browsers, computers). The current favorite flavor of free software/open source LMS for secondary schools is Moodle.

These, then, are our idea of the most economical, yet powerful and sustainable options. In the Free Software/Open Source Software world, however, new tools emerge all the time.
